White Net Tilt Hat Revisited

It's not often that I buy a vintage item and find it or a similar example in an old magazine, or at least not in the same year. But I was browing through a copy of Everywoman today and found this illustration.

which is very similar to this hat that I bought at Sledmere House a couple of weeks ago the date of the magazine is February 1944. Available now at Wickedlady Collectables

Style Icons of the 30s. Marina, Duchess of Kent

While America had Hollywood stars the British had the Royal family. Princess Marina (of Greece & Denmark) married the Duke of Kent in 1934 and became one of the most loved of British Royals of the 30s.
With her husband and growing young family she featured in countless newspaper and magazine articles epitomising the aspirations of the middle classes for stability, attractiveness and demeanour.

Charity Shop Find

Usually my local charity shops are a rich source of vintage finds, both for me and
for Wickedlady Collectables, but the last few months have been very sandy. Due, no doubt, to the recession (Or whatever else you want to call it), people are hanging onto things rather than giving away. Last week we had 6 different charity shop gift bags through the letter box. Everyone is feeling the pinch.

So I was absolutely delighted to find this lovely lady for £2 this week, she was likely one of a pair but frankly I have too many books to be decorative about them on every shelf so 1 is good.

1930s Tilt Hats at Wickedlady Collectables

Part of the Sledmere House hat horde, 2 of the cutest hats I've had this year.
This style - perched forward over one eye with a band around the hair - is my all-time
favourite. Followed closely by the brimmed cloche.
These two gorgeous ladies are available now at Wickedlady Collectables

The Moscow Mule

Originally invented on the east coast of the States in 1941, it migrated west to Hollywood and was a popular drink for several years in Los Angeles. Wider popularity came in the 50s and was possibly the reason that vodka came to be used in a wider range of cocktails.

Anyway it's a great drink for hot days when you really shouldn't be imbibing too much alcohol.

2 measures Vodka
1 measure lime juice
Ginger Beer (Amerian Ginger Ale or Canada Dry)
Sprig of mint

In a goblet pour the vodka and lime juice over ice cubes. Insert the mint and top up with Ginger Beer.
