Souvenir of 1953

Apart from the 1000s of biscuit, tea and toffee tins, the holographic brooches and souvenir supplements in every newspaper and magazine there were some rather classy souvenirs of the coronation.
See also Tickety Boo Tupney for other quirky souvenirs.

Have I Got Some Vintage News For You

On Sunday I met a lovely lady in a car park in York and swapped some portraits of the Queen for 4 feet of magazines.
There are over 150, and I'll be slowly listing them on the website, in the meantime email me if you are interested in Ideal Home (1955-79), Homes and Gardens (1955-83) and Housewife (1950-66) plus a few oddments.
Trying to persuade myself its summer.

Failing.

Skirt Primark via ebay, Tshirt charity shop, bolero not sure, Rayne white lace shoes from pre-loved, hat from stock.

Have already spotted some great knitting patterns and frocks to blog over the next few weeks (months!)

English Rose Kitchens

I've been doing some DIY work in the kitchen this week and have been looking through the Ideal Home Magazines I have in stock for inspiration. Although I haven't got an English Rose Kitchen, if money were no object I would have one installed tomorrow.

Camouflage

It's sunny, it's warm (almost), the garden is in overdrive. I made an impromptu visit to York this morning and found this gorgeous frock in the Sue Ryder charity shop.
c1980 its got some lovely late 30s details - smocking on the shoulders, a tie neckline and puff sleeves. Tomorrow I will move the buttons on the cuffs so they stay above my elbow, but today I was too keen to wear it to bother about details.

Dress £9.95 Sue Ryder, shoes Rayne suede with gold piping from 1977 £9.09 Ebay

Just in case you couldn't see me in the 1st pic.

Stye Icons: Barbara Bain as Cinnamon Carter

Cinamon Carter was the femme fatale character in Mission: Impossible. Barbara Bain played her from 1966-69 alongside her husband Martin Landau, Greg Morris, Peter Graves, Peter Lupus and in the first season Steven Hill.

Cinnamon Carter was a fashion model turned covert operator who lured men with her glamour, but like Emma Peel of The Avengers was no slouch in the brains department. These stills from season 1 (1966) show an American MOD wardrobe on a mature woman who can, frankly, wear just about anything and get away with it.

While grabbing these stills I noticed that in the opening scenes where the group get together to discuss the upcoming operation she aways white, black or both (Emma Peel again). Throughout the operations she always wears colours unless the part calls for a uniform. The more conservative characters she has to play wear a glam but slightly more conventional wardrobe.

A still used when Steven Hill selects his team.

Mauve shift with yoke and bow.

Knitted white dress with black cuffs and bow.

Pretty much her standard make-up in season 1.

Op art aline dress on round yoke.

Navy & White suit with yellow blouse and navy clutch

Lime and burnt orange boucle dress and coat.

Yellow dress with bias skirt, navy straw hat.

Button and loop fastening on yellow dress (yum yum)

Camel shift dress with short cape.

Peter Lupus, Martin Landau, Steven Hill, Barbara Bain and Greg Morris.

Pale Pink Coat w diamante buttons (matching dress. shoes and bag)
