Film Stars For Lux

If there's one thing I really like it is a good film star advertising campaign, after the second world war, British stars were encouraged to get behind British products to boost sales. This campaign from 1951-52 for Lux soap flakes is a late contender.

Valerie Hobson entered films in 1932, creating many memorable roles, by 1952 her acting career was nearly over. She married Lord Profumo in 1954.

Mai Zetterling, her breakthrough in Ingmar Bergman's Torment led to a contract with Rank studios and she appeared in many late 40s and 50s English films. In the 60s she turned to directing and made some controversial films back in Sweden.

Glynis Johns had a very long career in film and television she is probably best remembered as the mermaid Miranda.

Anne Crawford was one of those second lead actresses who always gave sterling performances and you wondered why she wasn't given better roles, she died of leukemia in 1956 aged 35.
