Midwinter

Of all 50s modern designs I think the pottery has stood the test of time the best. Danish Modern furniture and David Whitehead fabrics also rate a mention of course but lets face it you can have more pottery. I shall always regret not buying a Plant Life dinner set at a car boot back in the 90s...

Shoe of the Month: January

Feeling rather cold looking at this advert from January 1950, we had 5 inches of snow last night and by this time tomorrow it looks like it will be floods instead. Really want to see wellie ads but I don't seem to buy the right magazines.

B***** January Again

Woman's Fair January 1938

In the words of Flanders and Swan

January brings the snow,
Makes your feet and fingers glow.

February's ice and sleet,
Freeze the toes tight off your feet.

Welcome March with wintry wind,
Would thou wert not so unkind!

April brings the sweet spring showers,
On and on for hours and hours.

Farmers fear unkindly May,
Frost by night and hail by day.

June just rains and never stops,
Thirty days and spoils the crops.

In July the sun is hot.,
Is it shining? No, it's not.

August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.

Bleak September's mist and mud,
Is enough to chill the blood.

Then October adds a gale,
Wind and slush and rain and hail.

Dark November brings the fog,
Should not do it to a dog.

Freezing wet December, then,
Bloody January again!

January brings the snow ...
